Rivian Acquires UK Spatial AI Startup Third Dimension for Autonomy
Electric vehicle manufacturer Rivian has acquired British software startup Third Dimension to accelerate its self-driving simulation capabilities.
Electric automaker Rivian finalized the acquisition of Third Dimension, a 15-person British artificial intelligence startup specializing in high-fidelity spatial generation. The acquired technical team will integrate directly into Rivian's core autonomy group to expand the automotive company's London-based software engineering presence.
The strategic transaction will allow Rivian to automatically synthesize its fleet's massive daily camera footage into interactive 3D simulations. Rebuilding rare real-world scenarios synthetically helps the manufacturer test hazardous edge cases safely in virtual worlds, a critical milestone for meeting its robotaxi delivery commitments.
